With fluctuating oil prices and the demand for sustainable waste oil streams, we partnered with Alfa Laval to develop this exciting opportunity. Alfa Laval came to BioteCH with a solution to use our Prodec Oil Plus decanter to separate fats and oil from an AD feedstock. In their case, it’s food waste. We conducted a 12-month validation to ensure that the oil removal wouldn't impact on their anaerobic digestion process. Through close monitoring and adjustments, we achieved outstanding results. At Hemswell site, the decanter produced up to 300 litres per hour of oil with a minimal effect on biogas production. The quality of the oil exceeded the expectations, even handling physical contaminants like plastic. BioteCH now recovers a highly sustainable oil stream, generating additional revenue and diversifying our outputs. The technical oil companies are pleased because they receive support and subsidies for finding new sustainable sources of waste oil and have increased their supply of material. It's a win-win situation for everyone involved. Building on this success, BioteCH confirmed an order for five skid mounted Prodec Oil Plus decanters.
